Fort Collins and Big Thompson Conservation Districts
It’s been HOT!!!!
Now is the time to check the noxious
weeds on the property to see if the
treatment you did earlier in the year
is having the desired effect and plan
a fall spraying if not.

You should also be checking your
pasture to ensure it isn’t being
overgrazed.  If the grass in an area is
less than 4 to 6 inches tall, it’s time
to rotate your livestock and give the
area a rest.  We have a lot of heat
ahead yet and the grass may not
recover if it can’t rest up a bit.

If you have been irrigating, make
sure to keep the livestock off the
wet ground to avoid compacting
the soil.

Everyone should be monitoring
soil moisture to ensure that the
root level has adequate moisture
to get to a good final yield.
Most crops harvested in the fall
will be drawing as much moisture
as possible from the ground over
the remaining summer months.
